Can I call now? Pre-call compliance check

One check before every dial: the consumer's possible time zones, Reg F call limits, stop flags, TCPA dialing rules and stricter Massachusetts, Washington, West Virginia and New York City rules. Shows why a call is blocked and when the next call is allowed.

Frequently asked questions

What does the can_call_now check cover?

Federal Reg F (the 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. window in every possible time zone, 7 call attempts in 7 days, and 7 days after a phone conversation), stop flags you pass (cease request, attorney, bankruptcy, unverified dispute, inconvenient time, no work calls, number opt-out, deceased), TCPA dialing rules for autodialed or prerecorded calls, and stricter rules for Massachusetts, Washington, West Virginia and New York City.

How does it pick the consumer's time zone?

From any mix of IANA time zone, state, ZIP and the phone's area code. States that span time zones return every zone. If the sources disagree, the call has to be convenient in all of them, as Reg F 12 CFR 1006.6(b)(1)(i) expects.

How many times can a collector call in Massachusetts?

Massachusetts limits collector-initiated calls or texts to 2 per debt in each 7-day period to the home, cell or personal number, and 2 per 30 days to other numbers such as work (940 CMR 7.04(1)(f), 209 CMR 18.16(1)(d)). Calls are limited to 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern unless the debtor's waking hours are known.

What are Washington's debt collection call limits?

For licensed collection agencies, RCW 19.16.250 presumes harassment for more than 3 communications a week, more than 1 a week at work, or calls to the residence between 9 p.m. and 7:30 a.m. It also caps calls or texts to a known cell phone at 2 a day.

What is New York City's call limit for debt collectors?

Through December 31, 2026, more than 2 communications in a 7-day period is presumed excessive (6 RCNY 5-77). From January 1, 2027 the SHIELD Rule allows up to 3 communications or attempts per account in 7 days across all media except mailed letters.

Which states are not covered?

Coverage is partial. Only Massachusetts, Washington, West Virginia and New York City are modeled beyond federal law, and no US state Sunday or holiday calling ban could be verified, so none is applied. The result warns when the consumer's state isn't modeled.
